Read:
Bitterness begins with a wound—a sharp comment, broken trust, disappointment that lingers longer than you expected. The writer of Hebrews calls it a “poisonous root” for a reason. Left unaddressed, it takes root. It shapes how you see people. It hardens your heart. It keeps you stuck replaying what went wrong instead of moving forward.
God doesn’t dismiss your pain, and he isn’t asking you to pretend it didn’t happen. But when you ask him to search you for bitterness, you're inviting him into what you may have buried so you can heal.
Reflect: Where might bitterness be taking root in you?
Pray: God, search me and show me where bitterness has settled in my heart. There are hurts I’ve carried longer than I want to admit, and they still feel heavy. Help me to face them honestly and trust you with the healing process. Grow your grace in me so I can walk in freedom instead of resentment. Amen.
