Every line of the Lord's Prayer—the one Jesus prayed publicly as an example of how we can approach God—is packed with power. It starts by putting God in his rightful place, then moves through surrender, provision, forgiveness, and strength. It’s a way to recalibrate your heart to what matters and who’s in charge of it all.
This prayer starts with relationship: “Our Father.” Before we ask for anything, before we surrender or repent, you’re reminded who you’re speaking to. You’re not approaching someone distant or disengaged. You’re coming to a Father who is strong, attentive, and present. One who wants to know you.
You don’t have to try to impress God with your prayers or find the perfect words. He already knows you and loves you. And if the word “Father” feels complicated because of your experience, bring that with you. God can handle your hesitation.
Reflect: Do you approach God like a Father who welcomes you, or someone you have to prove yourself to?
Pray: God, I want to know you as a loving Father. Remind me that I don’t have to earn your attention or try to impress you. Let this truth about who you are and how you see me change the way I approach you. Amen.
