Day 2: Baptism...and then what?

MAT.3

Read: Matthew 3:13-17

Additional Reading: Matthew 28:18-20

If you’re trying to learn a skill or trade, you want to find someone who has a lot of experience or success in the area to teach you more about it. When it comes to life, there’s no one more successful than Jesus. He is the only person to ever live a perfectly sinless life.

One of the first things we see Jesus do as he begins his ministry is get baptized, and he wants us to be baptized, too. In Matthew 3:13-17 we see that the son of God chooses to be baptized as he began his ministry. Later in Matthew 28:18-20 we see that Jesus calls all his followers to be baptized.

Baptism is an opportunity to live in obedience to Jesus and grow in our faith. Living in obedience and growing in our faith doesn’t happen overnight, and it isn’t a one-time decision. Obeying God and growing your faith in Him will be a lifelong adventure. It won’t always be easy, but just like with Baptism, God will be there every step of the way.

Challenge: Ask yourself what areas of your life you need to grow closer to Jesus in. Pray for God’s help in those areas.
