Although Amos is from Judah, he is sent to Israel to preach. This is a time of peace and prosperity for Israel but also a time when the people are not following God. In earlier chapters Amos has told them various nations will be judged. Today’s chapter focuses on Israel and the coming destruction. The altars to their false gods will also be destroyed. Amos urges the people to turn back to the God who previously rescued them from Egypt since it is the only way to be saved.

Maybe God has rescued you in many ways, but the most important is when he sent his Son to die on a cross. When we look at that, we should be reminded to follow God alone.
