It doesn’t take long for the people to turn their backs on the commitments they made to God. They do so in the worst possible way by worshipping a god they create for themselves. Worshipping actual idols isn’t very common in our culture, but worshipping things other than God is. Anytime we value anything above God we are doing what these people did. We see God as distant or absent and pursue something seemingly more accessible that brings immediate pleasure or security.
