Day 13 | Compassion That Moves

Read:

Someone shows up for you in a hard season—brings a meal, covers a bill, sits with you in a waiting room, or just listens while your heart is heavy. In a moment like that, you don't only feel cared for. You feel the love of Jesus, handed to you through a person.

That's exactly what John is talking about. Love was never meant to stay stuck in your heart or in your words. It's meant to move.

It's easy to say we care, and mean it. It's another thing entirely to step toward someone who's hurting. God didn't just tell us he loved us; he proved it through Jesus. As his followers, our love should be just as visible.

After all—as John asks—if you see someone in need, have what it takes to help them, and choose to do nothing, what does that really say about God's love at work in you?

Real compassion eventually costs you something—your time, your energy, sometimes your money. But when God's love fills your heart, it keeps your heart open. And an open heart has a way of leading to open hands. No matter God has entrusted to you, whether a lot or a little, love puts it to use for someone else's good.

Don't let this stay a nice idea. Who's the person in front of you who's hurting? What do you have that you can offer them today?

Pray: God, help me show your love through compassion that moves me to act. I don't want to only say I care. I want your love for me to be obvious in how I love the people around me. Show me who needs help today and what I can do. Amen.
