We can face our struggles with hope and joy because we know God is good and he loves us. But that doesn’t mean loss doesn’t hurt. We still grieve broken relationships. We still worry about job loss or a difficult diagnosis. We still feel anger about the injustice and pain around us.
Job knows God is the source of wisdom—and now he pours out his heart. He remembers how it felt to have a close relationship with God. Now he feels like God has abandoned him. He remembers being respected; now he’s mocked. He remembers being generous and helping those in need; he has nothing left to give.
Anyone who has walked through deep loss can relate to Job’s words: “My heart is troubled and restless. Days of suffering torment me. I walk in gloom, without sunlight” (Job 30:27-28, NLT). Depression. Anxiety. Darkness. The feeling of being completely alone.
And that loneliness can make everything feel heavier.
God never meant for us to carry life’s burdens alone. He promises to be with us—and he also gave us the Church, a community of people learning to follow him together. We’re meant to walk alongside one another, especially in hard seasons. Relationships don’t remove the pain, but they do remind us that we’re not facing it alone.
Who are the people walking with you right now? If you don’t have that kind of support yet, take a step toward it.
Pray: God, when I feel alone, remind me that you’re near. Lead into relationships that will help me walk closer with you, and help me be that kind of presence for someone else. Amen.
