Bible Reading / Job: Holding on to Faith Through Pain

Day 3 | When Suffering Feels Personal

Read:

So far, we’ve seen God’s wisdom, grace, and love in the way he recognizes Job’s faith. We’ve seen that Satan’s desire is to destroy, but that his power is limited by God’s authority. Now we see Job’s response.

Satan hoped Job would turn on God, blaming him for the loss of his wealth and his family.

But Job worshipped God.

This doesn’t mean Job didn’t grieve. It doesn’t mean he didn’t cry or feel the weight of what he had lost. God allowed Satan to destroy what mattered most to Job, but God never left him. Again and again, the Bible reminds us that God is near to us in every season. When we cry, he is there. When we’re afraid, he is there. When we rejoice, he is there. Job understood that truth, and he chose to worship.

We often think of worship as joyful singing—either with others or on our own. And sometimes it looks like that. But worship can also look like Job: on his knees, grieving his children, and still God for who he is—wise, loving, just, and powerful.

What are you facing today? Can you choose to praise God in the middle of it, not because the situation is good, but because he is?

Pray: God, I know you never leave me. When life feels heavy, help me continue to honor you. You are worthy of my praise, even here. Amen.
