Day 23

LUK.22

Blood

Jesus celebrates the Passover with His followers. It’s a Jewish holiday that celebrates the time when the people of Israel were released from slavery. On the original Passover, the people painted blood on the doorframes so their oldest sons would not die. When Jesus celebrates the Passover just before His death, He changes the meaning of the ceremony from remembering the blood on the doorframes to remembering Jesus’ death.
When we take Communion or the Lord’s Supper, we are celebrating Jesus’ death. It’s a reminder of how much Jesus had to suffer for us. Receiving forgiveness for our sins only requires our acceptance of Jesus’ gift to us, but the gift cost Jesus a great deal.
