"They know how I feel. I don't need to say it."
"Once things settle down, I'll make time for them."
“It’s not like we fight all the time. We’re fine."
Nobody plans to drift. You don't wake up one day and decide to stop caring about the people closest to you. It happens slowly. A skipped conversation here, a distracted dinner there, a "we're fine" you started saying without thinking.
Song of Songs pictures love as a vineyard and warns about the little foxes that ruin it (Song of Songs 2:15, NLT). Not wolves—foxes. The small, stealthy things you'd never expect to do real damage. In relationships, it's rarely one catastrophic moment that takes you out. It's the slow accumulation of the things you stopped noticing.
Here's the good news: what drifts can be pursued again. God is not apathetic about you. He runs after you, again and again, and he can wake up a heart that's gone numb. Paying attention is a choice you can make today. Who have you started to take for granted? What would it look like to show up, fully present, for them this week?
Pray: God, show me where I've gone numb. I don't want to lose the people I love over a stack of small, ignored moments. Wake me up to the ones right in front of me. Give me the attention, the energy, and the love to pursue them the way you pursue me. Amen.
