Read:
“What they don’t know won’t hurt them.”
“If they knew, it would destroy them.”
“It’s better for everyone if I keep this to myself.”
Keeping a secret feels like you're protecting someone else. Maybe even yourself. But in reality, secrets do neither. They only hollow out your relationships. After all, you can’t be fully known—and fully loved—if you’re hiding part of yourself away. At that point, your relationship is only built on proximity, not on intimacy.
The Bible calls us to confess our sins to each other and pray for each other, so that we can be healed (James 5:16, NLT). Confession—the very thing you’re afraid will blow everything up—is what your relationship may need the most in order to heal and thrive.
You don't have to keep doing the exhausting work of hiding. With God, there's nothing left to expose—he already sees it all and loves you anyway. And bringing things into the light with the people you trust is how walls finally come down. What have you been keeping in the dark that needs to come out?
Pray: God, you see what I keep hidden and you love me anyway. Give me the courage to stop hiding and step into the light, both with you and with the people I trust. I'm tired of keeping secrets. Heal what I've kept in the dark and bring me back into real connection. Amen.
