Day 7 It Was Never Yours To Carry

Read:

Have you ever stopped and realized, “I’m carrying way more than I was ever meant to?” Maybe it’s your family. Your job. A decision you don’t know how to make. Your future. You’re planning, managing, and trying to hold everything together—and you’re exhausted. But what if some of the weight you’re carrying was never yours to hold in the first place?

Think about everything we’ve prayed for this week. We’ve asked for God’s name to be honored. We’ve asked for God’s kingdom to come and his will to be done. We’ve asked God to provide what we need today. We’ve confessed our sins and asked God to forgive us, and help us forgive others. We’ve asked God to lead us away from temptation and rescue us from evil. From start to finish, it’s all about God: His kingdom. His power. His glory. Not ours.

Psalm 46:10 (NLT) says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Notice what God doesn’t say: “Be still and figure it all out.” He doesn’t say, “Be still and make sure everyone is okay.” He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Sometimes being still means releasing your grip on the things you’ve been desperately trying to control. You can care about your family, work hard, make wise decisions, and make plans for the future without carrying the weight of the outcome. Because you aren’t God. And thank goodness! You don’t have to hold everything together because God already does.

Today, pray the entire Lord’s Prayer out loud. Every line, from beginning to end. Let every word remind you that God is in control, he is providing, and he is in charge of the outcome. All you need to do is be still.

Pray: Lord, thank you that I can give you all my cares and worries and trust that you are in control. Help me release what was never mine to carry so I can be still and rest in who you are. Amen.
