Day 7 | Mary Magdalene: Witness of the Resurrection

Read:

In a culture that didn’t value the testimony of women, it’s surprising that a woman was the first person to discover the tomb where Jesus’ body had been placed was empty.

So when Mary Magdalene found the empty tomb, you can probably imagine the range of emotions she felt: joy, shock, confusion, excitement...and probably hesitation. She knew she needed to tell someone—but as a woman, would anyone believe her, let alone listen to her? Despite these worries, she went and told Jesus’ disciples what she had found.

That’s what makes Mary Magdalene's story so powerful. She could’ve come up with a laundry list of reasons why she wasn’t the right person to share the news about Jesus. But she couldn’t not tell someone what she had seen.

You might not feel like the right person to tell others about Jesus. You might feel like your story isn't interesting or dramatic enough—or that you’re not “perfect” enough. But if you've experienced God's grace, you have something valuable to share.

Pray: Jesus, give me courage to speak openly about who you are and what you’ve done in my life so that my story can encourage others and point them to you. Amen.
