Bible Reading / Up Against a Wall: The Life of David

Day 22 | Lean in or Turn Away

Read:

David wasn’t always perfect. He went through stretches where it felt like everything was going wrong—and like anyone would, he broke down now and then.

In today’s passage, we see David dealing with yet another disaster. Making their way back to their exiled home away from home, David and his men arrive in their village to discover it had been plundered and burned, families stolen like property. The loss was so great that even David’s close personal circle was ready to turn on him.

David was faced with a choice that would determine the course of his life: would he give up and give in, letting all the obstacles and struggles win? What would you do?

David looked God for strength. Rather than letting the bitterness win, he chose to believe God could still bring hope. He went to God, and God responded. He gave David clarity and direction, and he was able to work with his men to rescue everyone that was kidnapped from their village.

Like David, you can choose to close yourself off to God, or you can go to him for strength. Even when your world seems to be collapsing around you, God remains constant. Consider what hangs in the balance of your decision.
