Child Sponsorship is a life-changing opportunity for thousands of children around the world. Through Sponsorship, you can make it possible for a child in a developing country to get an education, start a career, and open up all kinds of opportunities they would never have access to otherwise.

While your financial contribution makes an impact, many people who sponsor a child will say that it’s the relationship you build along the way that’s the most life-giving. As you send letters and share pictures, here are some other ways to foster a strong connection with your sponsored child.

5 ways to connect with your sponsored child

Here are a few simple ways you can build your relationship across the miles and have fun along the way:

1. Log in to the website or app that your sponsorship organization hosts

There are often a variety of features available from emailing your child, seeing updates about their community, and sometimes even photo sharing. Here are links to get you started!

2. Pick a day of the month when you write a letter or email to your child

Having a recurring time on your calendar will help you remember to read any letters or updates from your sponsor child and reply to them. If your sponsored child’s birthday is on the 15th of their birth month, you could make the 15th of each month the day you set time aside!

3. Share about holiday traditions

It can be fun to learn about each other's cultures and how holidays are celebrated. If you have kids, this is a great opportunity for them to learn about another culture! Share some of your favorite traditions or seasonal memories and ask about their celebrations.

4. Include photos or other flat paper items with your letter

Photos are often treasured possessions for sponsored kids! Stickers, bookmarks, postcards, and coloring sheets can all be fun additions.

5. Host a dinner themed around your sponsored child’s country

Turn on some cultural music in the background and flex your culinary muscles cooking some traditional foods. Invite friends to join you to learn together! Perhaps they would consider sponsoring a child, or if they already do, you could all write letters to your sponsored children.
