The holidays can get busy—fast. Between shopping, wrapping gifts, and trying to keep the family schedule organized, it’s easy to rush a card to the mailbox.
But when you take a few minutes to make it personal, your card can become more than a holiday chore. It can become a gift—one that points to Jesus, brings hope, and reminds someone they’re loved.
Ways to Make Your Christmas Card More Personal
Here are some prompts to level up your Christmas card writing. Try one or a few!
Share a Bible Verse
The reason we celebrate Christmas is because of Jesus’ birth and the hope it brings to our lives. A Bible verse is the perfect way to point to the deeper significance of Christmas! Try one of these.
Ask Yourself: What verse really says what I want them to hear this Christmas?
Make It About Them
Take a moment to think about the person you’re writing to. What’s a memory you shared this year? How have you seen God work in their life? What encouragement do they need going into a new year?
Ask Yourself: What moment this year made me grateful for them?
Share a Story
Don’t overthink this one! Even a short, personal story makes your card feel more personal. It could be something God taught you, a funny moment, or the way the person you’re writing to impacted your life.
Ask Yourself: What blessing do I want to celebrate with them?
Share a Simple Blessing or Prayer
Letting someone know you’re praying for them can be comforting and encouraging. Keep it short, sincere, and specific.
Ask Yourself: What do I want God to do in their life next year?
Invite Them to Christmas at LCBC
At LCBC, we know that Christmas is a time to find hope and joy, no matter how the year went. Christmas is one of the easiest times of year to invite someone to church. And one invitation could change the course of someone’s life!
Ask Yourself: What do I think this person would gain from coming to Christmas at LCBC with me?
More Tips for Meaningful Cards
- Close with connection. Think about how you'd end a phone call with a loved one—pro probably not by saying "sincerely”! Sign off with something you’d actually say, like “I’m grateful for our friendship” or “I’m praying for a great start to the year ahead!”
- Presentation goes a long way. Choosing nice card stock or including a photo adds another level of intention and personality.
- Authenticity always beats perfection. Your card doesn’t have to be flawless for it to be meaningful. Write from the heart, don’t sweat the little mistakes or imperfections, and let it feel like you.
Christmas cards don’t have to feel like a chore. They’re a chance to speak life, share hope, and remind people God is at work.
