The Perfect Time to Tell Your Story

Our lives are not an accident, and God wants to use our stories to help others in their journey.

What does it mean to share your story?

Telling others about your journey of life change since deciding to follow Jesus is one of the best ways to introduce them to Christ. By sharing your story, you’re fulfilling an even greater purpose: using your life to help others meet Jesus.

John 17:18 tells us that we are sent into the world, just as Jesus was, to bring glory to God. And the best way to do that — to share the greatest love of all — is in the way we live.

Matthew 5:14-16 explains it this way: "You are the light of the world — like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."

If we are the light of the world, we are to spread that light. And we don’t have to wait until we’re perfect to tell our story. We’re all in process — at different parts in our walk with Jesus — and you don’t have to have it all figured out to use your story to impact others.

Share your story through Baptism

Our life is not an accident, and God wants to use our journey to help other people in their journey. A great way to do that is to share your journey and tell others about how God is working in your life through Baptism. Getting baptized is simply standing up in front of your family, friends, and community and publicly saying how Jesus has changed your life.

Your story doesn’t have to be dramatic to be effective—it just has to be authentic. If you don’t know where to start, try answering these three questions:

What was life like before Christ? What happened when you met Christ? How has your life changed since Christ?

The way God has orchestrated your life is part of the greater narrative of life change through Jesus. Knowing how to tell your story is a crucial part of your purpose! By thinking through what to say when the time comes to share it, you’re preparing to use the greatest tool God has given you to see more lives changed by Christ.

We were made to be storytellers, so don’t miss an opportunity to tell your story to the world. You were created for it!
