Sooner or later, everyone thinks about it. What happens after this life? What is heaven really like? Who will be there? Will you get to go someday?
These questions can feel morbid, but it’s natural to wonder. The good news is there are answers right at your fingertips. And we’re not talking about your smartphone—we’re talking about the Bible.
6 Questions About Heaven Answered
The Bible gives us a glimpse at what heaven will be like, and hope for what’s ahead. Here’s what Scripture tells us about heaven:
1. Is Heaven Real?
Heaven is an actual, physical place—and Jesus is preparing it for you.
Right before his death, Jesus reassured his followers with a promise. In John 14:2-3, he said, “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”
The way Jesus talks about heaven creates a picture of someone excitedly preparing their home to welcome guests. It’s real, it’s specific, and there’s space for you there.
“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” John 14:2-3
2. Will We Really Be With God in Heaven?
Yes! And his full presence is what makes heaven so good.
You get a picture of this in Revelation 21:3: “I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.’”
The best part of heaven is that God is fully there. All the best parts of life—love, peace, belonging—are small glimpses of him. In heaven, you get to be face-to-face with the source forever.

3. Will Suffering Go Away in Heaven?
Yes. Your pain will be gone for good!
Revelation 21:4 gives us this hope for heaven: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
Your grief, illness, disappointment, and loss will all disappear. The suffering in the world won’t even be a memory. It’s all replaced by a joy that will never run out.

4. Who Can Go to Heaven?
Anyone who has trusted Jesus.
This is the heart of one of the most well-known verses in the Bible. John 3:16 says, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Your good deeds can’t qualify you for heaven, and your past can't disqualify you. Heaven is a gift offered to anyone who trusts Jesus and what he’s done for them. That means the door is open to you!

5. What Will We Do in Heaven?
In heaven, you’ll worship God, live in community with other believers, and experience joy like never before.
The author of Revelation had a powerful vision of heaven, described vividly in Revelation 7:9-10: “I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar, ‘Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!’”
Imagine every voice, everywhere, united in their worship and awe of God. Heaven will include worship like you’ve never experienced before, and you’ll share it with others in perfect community.
That kind of belonging may not exist in its fullness in this life, but you can still pursue encouraging, supportive community today! Finding your people in a Group is one of the best ways to get a taste of that belonging this side of heaven.

6. What Does Heaven Look Like?
Magnificent. It’s described as though it’s built out of jewels and precious metals.
Heaven is described this way in Revelation 21:18-21:
- A foundation of gemstones
Your best day, your favorite place, your happiest moment—none of it comes close to what it will feel like stepping into heaven. God has prepared something so good it’s beyond your ability to picture it. You don’t have to fully understand heaven to trust that it will be incredible.
“The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass.” Revelation 21:21
The Hope of Heaven Is Real—and It’s Available to You!
Here's the bottom line: heaven is a real place, prepared by a real God, for real people who trust him. It's free of pain, full of joy, and better than anything you could dream up.
And it all comes back to Jesus. Eternal life in God's presence isn't something you earn or hope you measure up to. It's a gift you receive by placing your trust in him.
