Day 20 | The Demon Possessed Man

Read: Mark 5:1–20

No one knew what to do with him. He lived among the tombs, broken and tormented. People tried to chain him up just to keep him from hurting himself and others, but even that didn’t work. He was out of control, isolated, ashamed, and completely consumed by darkness.

Everyone else had given up on him. But Jesus hadn’t.

Jesus crossed a lake to reach this man, and as soon as he stepped onto the shore, the man ran toward Him. Even in all that chaos, something inside him knew where freedom was.

And with just a few words, Jesus changed everything.

The demons that had wrecked his life were gone. He was restored, calm, and fully in his right mind. The people watching couldn’t believe it! They had gotten used to the broken version of him. But Jesus knew who he really was, and he gave him a mission: go home and tell people what God has done.

We often give the enemy way too much credit. We say things like, “I can’t stop,” or “It’s too far gone,” or “That’ll never change.” But when we say these things, what we’re really saying is, “God can’t heal me.” We may not mean it, but it’s what we imply.

This story shows us that no one is too far gone for God. There’s no situation too dark, no addiction too deep, no lie too strong. Jesus broke the grip of hell on this man’s life with a few words, and he is more than able to do the same for you.

So today, stop saying “I can’t” and start saying “God can.” Bring your mess to him. Run toward him, not away.
