Chapters 3 through 5 tell of another bad king named Jehoram and of some miracles performed by Elisha. The chapter today describes more miracles. God shows his power over the laws of physics and his ability to provide protection in seemingly hopeless circumstances. The chapter ends with deep hopelessness that won’t be resolved until our next reading.
This reading makes us wonder how often we are protected and don’t even know it such as the accident we avoided by being a little late, the temptation that never happened because we weren’t in the wrong place at the wrong time, or the time when our enemy was thwarted by a circumstance we didn’t cause. Our eyes need to be opened too.
