We all have times where our mouths move a little faster than our brains. Something hits a nerve, you feel disrespected or disregarded, and your emotions rise. You snap, run your mouth, or even shut down—and at first, you feel justified.
But just because something is justifiable doesn’t mean it’s wise. In seconds, you can damage a relationship or break trust that took years to build.
Proverbs 14:29 tells us something important: you don’t have to respond to anything immediately. Simply pausing, even for a moment, allows you to let your feelings cool down enough that you can get a grip on them.
No one says, “I wish I yelled more.” But almost everyone, at some point or another, has said, “I wish I could take that back.”
Before you react today, just pause. Take a breath, and take a moment to ask God to guide you before you respond.
Pray: God, slow me down. Help me take my time so I can respond with wisdom, not impulse. Amen.
