Read:
Proverbs says a person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. That’s a picture of vulnerability. Without walls, anything can get in and cause damage.
The same is true for us. When we live without self-control, we leave room for anger, temptation, and impulsive decisions to take over. What seems small in the moment can create consequences that last much longer than we expected.
We often excuse our reactions or habits by calling them stress relief or harmless coping, but real strength is being able to say no to the things that pull you off course. Saying no doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means you have the strength and self-control to protect your peace, your character, and your future.
You don’t have to build that strength on your own. God can help you recognize where your walls are weak and give you the power to rebuild them.
Pray: God, help me recognize the areas where I need stronger self-control. Give me the strength to say no to what pulls me away from you and yes to what leads to peace, wisdom, and freedom. Amen.
