No one is born an elite athlete. Sure, someone might have athletic talent—but becoming the best of the best takes effort. They decide every day to fuel their bodies, exercise, train, and rest so they can get stronger, faster, and better. No one who’s lazy in practice is a winner on game day.
1 Corinthians 9:25 describes following Jesus this way. Growing in faith requires consistent decisions—taking time out of your day to read the Bible when you could have been scrolling on your phone. Having the right conversation with the right person instead of gossiping. Keeping your word and showing up when you’d rather skip a commitment.
Discipline isn’t glamorous, and it can lose its luster quickly. But over time those intentional choices build character. And here’s the best part: when it’s discipline in your relationship with God, the result lasts longer than any trophy or championship win.
Pray: Jesus, I want to grow stronger in my faith and my connection with you, but I know that will take work. Increase my capacity and help me choose what lasts over what feels easy so I can be more disciplined. Amen.
