There’s a story about someone who drowned, all the while asking for God to save them. When they got to heaven, their first question was “God, why didn’t you help me?”
God’s response? “I sent you a life jacket. A rescue boat. But you didn’t use them.”
This isn’t a true story, but it points to something important. We tend to think of our temptations the same way. We look to God to simply make them disappear—when the reality is, he’s already giving us the tools to overcome them. The catch? It’s up to you to use them.
There will always be inappropriate content on the internet, but it’s within your power to delete the apps or close your laptop. There will always be someone cracking a disrespectful joke, but you have the choice to shut it down. There will always be parties and bars, but you can always choose what you drink and how much.
Temptation will try to convince you that you're powerless, but you’re not a victim of your circumstances. You have access to the strength and grace of God—and when you look to him for help, he will give you what you need to steer clear of the things that could take you down.
Pray: God, remove my excuses. Give me courage to take the way out You provide.
