“Break me” might be the most uncomfortable prayer you can pray. It feels risky because breaking usually comes with loss—of control, pride, or the version of yourself you’ve worked hard to maintain. But God isn’t interested in breaking you for the sake of pain. He’s after hearts that are surrendered and responsive to him.
Breaking is often how God softens what's become hard. It’s how he loosens your grip on control and teaches you to depend on him instead of yourself. What breaks you open can also open you up to your purpose and bring you closer to God. It might be uncomfortable—or unbearable—in the moment, but if you’re willing to allow God to reshape you, you’ll be in awe of the transformation you see looking back.
Pray: God, I don’t want to hold onto anything that keeps me from you. Break down what needs to be broken in my heart—my pride, my self-reliance, my need for control. Do the work in me that I can’t do on my own. I trust you, even when it’s hard. Amen.
