Day 17 | Pray for Boldness

Read:

There's nothing wrong with praying for peace and safety—we should. But sometimes God wants to give you something even better: a heart that praises him when life isn't peaceful, endurance when following him gets uncomfortable, and courage when fear is telling you to stay quiet.

That's the thing about boldness. It isn't something you have to manufacture on your own. It's something you ask God for. After Peter and John returned to the other believes and filled them in on what the council commanded—to never speak about Jesus again—they all prayed. As they prayed, they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke God's word boldly.

And that same Holy Spirit lives in everyone who has put their faith in Jesus—including you. Which means you don't have to scrape together your own courage. You can ask God for his. So start praying bolder prayers and see what shifts.

Pray: God, thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit. I'll take comfort when you give it, but what I want even more is boldness—for the greater things you want to do in and through me. Give me your courage where I've been running on my own. Amen.
