Day 18 | One Heart, One Purpose

Read:

The early believers weren't united because they shared the same personalities, backgrounds, or opinions. They were united because they shared the same Savior, the same mission, and the same purpose. And that compelled them to stop thinking of themselves as owners and started living like stewards. They knew what they had wasn't ultimately theirs; it was God's. When a need came up, they shared gladly, because they knew they were just handling what God had given them in the first place.

As followers of Jesus, most of us already believe God is the creator, owner, and provider of everything. But believing that and living it are two different things. God's ownership isn't only good theology—it's the lens that changes how you see every single part of your life: your money, your marriage, your kids, your friendship, your work, your time, your abilities. Everything you have, and everything you are, was entrusted to you by God.

When Jesus really grips your heart, your grip on everything else starts to loosen. You don't have to clench so tightly, because you know it all belongs to him anyway. What's one thing you've been holding like it's yours? Today try opening your hand and calling it what it actually is: God’s.

Pray: God, help me not just to know you own it all, but to actually live that way. Thank you for trusting me to steward what belongs to you. Loosen my grip on the things I've been clutching, and remind me they were always yours to begin with. Amen.
