Some people are remembered for what they built. Barnabas is remembered for what he gave away. Here, we see him selling a field and handing the money to the apostles—no fundraising campaign, no public recognition. That one act of radical generosity became the thread running through his whole story. All through the book of Acts, Barnabas became known as the guy who encouraged people, believed in them, and poured his life into the mission of Jesus.
Generosity isn't something you do every once in a while when the mood strikes. It's who you become. Plenty of people are generous, but for a follower of Jesus the reason is different. We don't give just because it feels good or the cause is worthy. We give because God has been overwhelmingly generous with us first. And as your heart grows to look more like his, generosity becomes one of the most natural ways his character shows up in you.
Barnabas never set out to be known as generous. He just kept saying yes to God, and over time, generosity became his reputation. What kind of reputation are your daily choices building? Plenty of people will form opinions about you—but there's really only one whose opinion counts. Keep saying yes to him, one choice at a time.
Pray: God, you've invited me to move from keeping to giving. Help me do it with the right heart, for the right reasons. Make generosity part of who I am, not just something I do now and then—and help me keep saying yes to you. Amen.
