Day 29 | Finishing Well

Read:

Paul is on his way to Jerusalem, and he knows trouble is waiting for him there. That's what makes his words so startling: my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it to finish the work Jesus gave me.

That might sound like despair talking. But Paul had found something worth spending his whole life on, and once you've found that, staying comfortable stops being the goal. Paul wanted more than mere survival. He was trying to finish strong—to run the whole race, not just coast through.

Most of us are good at starting. We can easily capitalize on that fresh burst of motivation that comes with a new goal or a new season of life. Finishing well, staying faithful after the excitement wears off, is often the hard part. That's when we’re most tempted to quit—or at least stop trying.

Like running a literal race, you have to “keep your eyes on the prize.” Remember what’s at stake: kingdom impact. Greater things. Lives changed by Christ.

What would it look like to play the long game for something like that? To fill your days with purpose and spend your time and effort on something that will still matter long after you're gone. Think about the prize you’re running toward and talk to God about how you can start going after it wholeheartedly.

Pray: God, I want to finish well, not just start strong. Show me the greater things you want to accomplish through me, and give me the faithfulness and endurance to keep pushing toward it. Help me keep running until the race is done. Amen.
