Head
Nehemiah had a comfortable position. He was the cupbearer to the king of Persia, a trusted role close to power and influence. But when he heard that Jerusalem's walls were broken down, something happened: he couldn't ignore it.
Nehemiah's burden became the beginning of his calling. Before he ever built a wall, he prayed. Before he organized people, he wept. Before he acted publicly, he sought God privately.
God often begins a calling by placing something on our hearts that we can't shake. A burden for people, injustice, brokenness, or a need around us may be an invitation from God to participate in his work.
Heart
Sometimes we ask God, “What is my purpose?” But we may need to ask a different question: “What breaks my heart?”
What problem, person, or need has God placed on your heart?
Hands
Write down one burden God has given you.
Then take one practical step: pray for it, research it, serve someone connected to it, or have a conversation.
Pray: God, open my eyes to the things that matter to you. Give me a heart that's moved by what moves your heart. Show me how I can join you in bringing restoration and hope. Amen.
