Head
When Samuel went to Jesse's house to anoint Israel's next king, everyone expected God to choose the oldest, strongest, or most impressive son. Even Samuel assumed one of Jesse's older sons must be God's choice. But God repeatedly passed them by and chose David, the youngest son who was out in the fields taking care of sheep.
David wasn't chosen because he looked like a king. In fact, he didn't fit the expectations people had for leadership. But God saw something others missed: David's heart.
This doesn't mean David was perfect. His life would include incredible victories and devastating failures. But what separated David was that he continually returned to God. He cared more about God's opinion than people's approval.
Heart
We live in a world obsessed with image. We spend incredible amounts of energy managing how others see us. But God isn't impressed by our appearance, platform, achievements, or reputation. He sees beneath the surface. The deeper question is, “What does God see when he looks at my heart?”

Spend time today asking God to reveal one area where your heart needs growth.
Don't just ask him to change your behavior—ask him to change the person you're becoming.
Pray: God, thank you that you see me completely and love me deeply. Shape my heart to become more like yours. Help me care more about who I am before you than how I appear before others. Amen.
