Read: 1 Kings 19:1-18
Head
Elijah's life had just reached an incredible high point. He had stood courageously against the prophets of Baal and witnessed God's power on Mount Carmel. But immediately afterward, Elijah became afraid and ran into the wilderness. The same man who boldly confronted hundreds of false prophets now found himself exhausted, discouraged, and alone.
God's response is fascinating. He doesn't begin by correcting Elijah. He first cares for him. He gives him food, rest, and space. Then God reveals himself—not through a powerful wind, earthquake, or fire, but through a gentle whisper.
Elijah expected God to move through dramatic displays of power. God showed him that he also works through quiet moments of presence. Sometimes we miss God because we're only looking for him in the extraordinary.
Heart
Many of us live with constant noise. Notifications, expectations, opinions, and distractions fill our days. Sometimes the problem isn't that God is silent—it's that we haven't created space to listen.
Where have you been so busy listening to everything else that you've struggled to hear God?
Hands
Create ten minutes of silence today.
Put away your phone, sit before God, and simply pray:
“Lord, help me recognize your voice.”
Pray: God, quiet my heart so I can hear you. Help me recognize that you're not only present in the dramatic moments but also in the stillness. Teach me to slow down and listen. Amen.
