Read:

Jesus spent a lot of time around people who were confused, searching, and spiritually worn down—not just one on one, but in crowds. But never once did he see these lost people as problems to solve. He was moved by their state and motivated to help. That’s what compassion looks like.

Sometimes we think compassion and pity are interchangeable—but while pity keeps us observing comfortably from a distance, compels us to step in and get involved.

Jesus didn’t just scroll past brokenness when he saw it—he entered into peoples’ realities, bringing clarity and healing and giving his attention to people who had been overlooked for far too long.

If we’re not careful, we can become numb to the hardship around us. We become more interested in protecting our time, dismissing people as “too much,” or judging if someone is “deserving” of our help. But if we’re truly following the way of Jesus, our hearts should never harden.

Today, notice where you’ve grown numb or put your guard up. Think about the people you avoid—the ones who frustrate you, who keep failing, who just don’t seem worth the effort. Then, remember how Jesus loved you, and ask him to help you see others through his eyes—and respond how he would.

Pray: God, give me your heart for others. Where I’ve grown distant or defensive, soften me. Teach me to love and serve like you do. Amen.
