In chapters 3 through 7, Eli and his sons die, and Samuel becomes the leader of Israel. Nations around Israel were led by kings, but Israel was led by people chosen by God. In chapter 8, the Israelites asked for a king. Now it falls to Samuel appoint that ruler.
