STOP
Pause and think about how you respond to authority in your life.
Whether it’s parents, teachers, coaches, or leaders—everyone has authority figures. And how you respond to them often reveals your attitude, not just your actions.
- How do you typically respond when someone tells you what to do?
- Do you listen with respect, or do you push back internally or outwardly?
- Where has honoring authority been frustrating or difficult for you?
Be honest. This helps you recognize what’s really going on in your heart.
EXHALE
Take a deep breath in…hold it…and slowly breathe out.
Let go of frustration, pride, or defensiveness.
Ask God to shape your attitude toward others.
Inhale: “God, shape my heart…”
Exhale: “…to honor others.”
LOOK
“Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. ‘Honor your father and mother.’ This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, ‘things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.’”
— Ephesians 6:1–3
ASK
- Where do you struggle most with authority right now?
- Is your attitude matching your actions?
- What would it look like to honor—even when you don’t agree?
Think of one specific way you can show honor today.
HEAR
Sit quietly and ask: “God, where do I need to grow in honor?”
If a person or situation comes to mind, write it down.
Take that as your next step today.
