Bible Reading / The 7 Temptations You're Probably Fighting

Day 6 | Signs You're Prideful Without Realizing It

Read:

  • Proverbs 16:18

When was the last time you actually changed your mind because someone else was right? Be honest.

Pride is the one temptation you almost never catch in yourself. From the inside, it doesn't feel like arrogance—it just feels like being right. It hides as confidence, discernment, high standards, or "knowing your worth." That's what makes it so hard to see and so easy to justify.

Proverbs doesn't soften it: "Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18, NLT). The warning isn't just about the big, obvious moments of arrogance. It's about the low-grade, everyday version—the need to be right. The comparisons you make in the back of your mind all day (where you come out on top). The subtle resistance to being corrected or overlooked.

The first job is just to see it. And the simplest test is whether you can say "you were right" out loud to a real person—and mean it.

Pray: God, show me where pride has taken root in me. I know I can't see all of it on my own. Give me the humility to receive correction, the willingness to change my mind, and the honesty to see myself clearly. Amen.
