Read: Luke 5:5–6
Simon had fished all night with nothing to show for it. Jesus told him to try again—
to cast his net one more time. It probably sounded insane to Simon. What would
be the point of throwing his net into the same waters he’d been trying to fish all
night?
But instead of arguing, Simon obeyed—and God performed a miracle.
God often calls us to take steps of faith that don't make sense. They seem too big
to work, or we don’t have all the details we feel like we need. But poking holes in
God’s direction or asking for more information doesn’t grow your trust in him.
Trust grows when we act on God’s instructions. Each step of obedience is an
opportunity to see God at work in your life, for him to prove himself trustworthy.
This pattern of obeying and watching God move helps you become more confident
in following him so that when you hear him speak—you move.
Practice: Look for one action of obedience today and follow through. It might be a
big step or a small one. It might be obvious, or it might not come to you right
away. Afterward, reflect on what God revealed or how he met you in that step and
thank him for proving himself faithful.
