Sometimes the challenges of life can feel like a storm at sea. Wave after wave of pressure, temptation, exhaustion, and doubt crash down all around you. Somewhere along the way, you might have been taught to man up, bottle it up, and handle it on your own. But if you want to get through the storms of life, you need an anchor—something you can hold onto.
Jesus once spent 40 days alone in the wilderness facing every struggle and temptation imaginable. There was no one around for him to call on. All he could do was hold on tight to God’s promises in the Bible. For every temptation, there was a truth from God that Jesus used to remind himself of what he knew was true. Those truths were his anchor—and they’re yours, too.
When you anchor yourself in God—by reading his truth in the Bible, talking to him in prayer, and staying aware of his presence through worship—you’ll find strength you could never conjure up on your own. Depending on God doesn’t make you weak. As you learn to rely on him consistently, you discover a kind of peace and power that no storm can touch.
Reflect: What are you trying to handle on your own? How could leaning fully on God change the way you face pressure, temptation, or fear?
Pray: God, help me trust you in every part of my life. Remind me that I don’t have to go it alone and show me how to stay anchored in your strength when chaos surrounds me. Amen.
