Day 4 | The Duality of Life

Read:

Ecclesiastes 3

Is there a bigger purpose behind the seasons of my life?

The “why” questions often hit the hardest. Why did my child get sick? Why did my marriage end this way? Why has my loved one cut me out of their life? These are real, valid questions, and it’s natural to want answers. But sometimes, there are no clear-cut answers.

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NLT).

We want the good without the hard—and that’s understandable. But life holds both. There’s new life when a baby is born. There’s celebration when milestones are reached. There are big laughs, core memories, and landmark achievements. And alongside them are also seasons of loss, grief, and uncertainty.

It’s often in those harder seasons that we reach out to God. We recognize we can’t carry them on our own, so we cry out for help. And God meets us there. He promises to work all things out for the good of those who love him (Romans 8: 28), and that nothing can separate us from his love (Romans 8:39, NLT).

But what about the good seasons?

“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me” (Psalm 103:2, NLT).

In every season—good or hard—God is present. And in every season, you have a reason to turn toward him.

Pray: God, thank you for all you’ve done for me in every season. Help me turn to you not just when life is hard, but in every moment—and to trust that you will always be there with me. Amen.
