Day 5 | Fulfilling Community

Read:

  • Ecclesiastes 4

Why does doing life alone leave me feeling empty?

There are times when we need to be alone to decompress, focus, and recharge. When life feels overwhelming, it can be helpful to take a step back from the people, notifications, and never-ending demands of family, work, school, and everyday responsibilities. Maybe that looks like taking a walk, sitting quietly with a cup of coffee, or spending time doing something you love.

But there are other times when being alone is the very last thing we need.

King Solomon compares relationships to strands woven together into a rope. A single strand is easier to break, but woven together there is strength. His father, King David, wrote, “How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!” (Psalm 133:1, NLT)

We especially need that kind of support during the difficult seasons of life: grief, financial struggles, a hard diagnosis, or just the overwhelm of life in the twenty-first century. Sharing laughter and tears, prayer, or even sitting in silence with people who care about us can remind us that we don’t have to carry those burdens alone.

Some of us are surrounded by family. Some of us aren’t. But as followers of Jesus, we’re part of something bigger. We’re part of God’s family, and we’re called to support one another.

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, NLT)

No matter your stage of life or your circumstances, you were never meant to handle life alone. One of the ways God cares for us is through other people, so don’t be afraid to reach out and let others walk alongside you.

For many people, a Group is a great way to start. There’s a Group for everyone, no matter where you are in life, where you can build deeper relationships, grow in your faith, and find support when you need it most.

Pray: God, help me to reach out for help when I need it, and give me opportunities to encourage and care for others—and be encouraged and cared for in return. Thank you for the people you’ve already placed in my life and the people I’ll meet. Amen.
