Have you ever asked, “God, where are you?”
That’s exactly what the disciples were asking in the middle of this storm. They were crossing the Sea of Galilee—a body of water that could go from calm to dangerous in minutes. Winds whipped across the water, waves crashed over the sides of the boat, and the vessel filled with water fast enough to threaten their very lives. For them, this wasn’t just a scary moment—it felt like a life-or-death situation.
And through it all, Jesus was asleep at the back of the boat. It must have felt like he didn’t care. Like he wasn’t paying attention.
We’ve all been there—in the middle of a health crisis, a sudden loss, or anxiety that won’t let up. We cry out, “Don’t you see what’s happening to me?”
But what if Jesus being asleep in the boat wasn’t a sign that he didn’t care, but a picture of the peace he offers? He knew they were safe. He hadn’t left. He was right there with them.
And he’s right there with you, too. Your fear doesn’t scare him. Your storm doesn’t surprise him. He hasn’t left you alone in it. He’s still in the boat.
Pray: Jesus, sometimes I feel like you’re distant when I need you most. But I want to trust that you’re still in control, even when I don’t feel it. Calm my heart the way you calmed that storm. Help me rest in your presence today. Amen.
