Living wide open begins with awareness. Jesus reminds us that when we notice the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the sick, or the imprisoned—and choose to respond—we are serving him. He makes it clear: every act of care matters—so much so that even the smallest count as if we were caring for Jesus directly.
Living wide open means paying attention. It’s noticing someone at work who’s struggling, listening to a neighbor’s story, or helping a friend when you’d rather focus on your own schedule. God calls us to open our eyes and hearts to the needs around us, and then do something about it. Awareness without action isn’t the wide-open life Jesus is inviting us into.
Living with open eyes is sometimes inconvenient. It requires us to slow down, both to notice and to respond. But when you choose to act, even in small ways, you participate in God’s work in the world. It may stretch you, challenge your routines, or push you out of your comfort zone—but those are the moments where faith becomes alive and visible.
Pray: God, open my eyes to the needs around me today. Give me the courage to step in and help, even when it’s inconvenient, uncomfortable, or unexpected. Teach me to act with love and generosity, following the example of Jesus in every small moment.
