Read:

When Jesus saw the crowds gathering in Galilee—people coming to hear his teaching, seeking healing, and looking for hope—he didn’t see a burden. He saw people who were hurting and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

These were individuals weighed down by sickness, poverty, and oppression, overlooked by society and longing for life to change. His heart moved with compassion, and he invited his followers to pray for more workers to join the mission.

This mission is the same one we sign up for when we choose to follow Jesus. Living wide open begins with a heart that notices and feels. Compassion isn’t just a feeling—it’s letting someone else’s pain matter to you enough that it changes how you act, even when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient.

When we live with an open heart, it stretches us beyond our comfort zones, but it also awakens us. It makes us more alive, more aware, and more like Jesus in our everyday choices. Suddenly, even ordinary moments can turn into opportunities to show God’s love.

Pray: Jesus, give me a heart like yours: compassionate, open, and willing to be moved. Help me notice the needs around me and give me courage to act, even when it stretches me or challenges my comfort. Teach me to care as deeply as you do.
