As parents and followers of Jesus, it’s exciting to think about the day when our kids will make the decision to trust Jesus with their lives and ask him to be their Forever Friend. Check out this article to see if your kid might be ready to begin the conversation about trusting Jesus. Here are some ways that we would love to partner with you during this milestone.

  1. Join us for Start Here, an interactive and informative experience providing a foundation to answer questions and guide your K-Grade 4 kids when they're ready to take their next step to ask Jesus to be their Forever Friend.
  2. If your child is ready to pray today and ask Jesus to be their Forever Friend, here’s how to guide the conversation:

Beginning a conversation about following Jesus

Your child may be asking a lot of questions about Jesus; questions that you may struggle with or just aren’t sure how to answer. That’s okay, because this is a starting point for you and your child to discover faith.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

If you have never trusted Jesus as your Savior, now is a perfect time. Now is your opportunity to put your stake in the ground, as your child does the same.

The Bible tells us that we don’t automatically have a relationship with Jesus or go to heaven by:

  • Being good or doing acts of service
  • Going to church
  • Giving
  • Getting baptized as a baby

This guide will help you lead your child to take the simple step to follow Jesus and understand how sin separates us from God. It’s as easy as A-B-C.

A = Admit that we have sinned

Everyone sins. When we hit our sister, lie to our parents, throw a tantrum, or yell back at our grandma, we sin. Sin separates us from God. Ask your child: What is sin and why is it a problem?

‘So when you know the good things you should do and don’t do them, you sin.’ James 4:17
B = Believe that Jesus died for our sins

Because God loves us so much, he sent his son Jesus to Earth. He chose to die on the cross to pay for all our sins. Ask your child: What did Jesus do for us?

‘When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life because of what Jesus our Lord has done.’ Romans 6:23
C = Choose to to accept the free gift of forgiveness and become Forever Friends with Jesus

Jesus wants us to accept his free gift of forgiveness for our sins. When we do that, we become Forever Friends with him and will be with God forever. Ask your child: Do you think you need forgiveness for your sins?

‘God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but have eternal life.’ John 3:16

Prayer

You can use this prayer with your child as you lead them to trust Jesus. They can read it, pray with you, or repeat small parts of what you say.

“Dear Jesus, I admit that I’ve messed up and sinned. I believe you died for my sins. I choose to accept your free gift of forgiveness and want to be your Forever Friend. Amen.”

If your child asked Jesus to be Forever Friends for the first time, we want to celebrate with them! Fill out the form below so their leader and small group can cheer them on!
