When Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan, he was challenging the assumptions of his audience. The hero wasn't a religious leader. The hero was someone many Jews would have considered an outsider.
The Samaritan saw a wounded man on the road and chose compassion over convenience. He stopped, sacrificed his time, spent his money, and helped someone who could offer him nothing in return.
Jesus wasn't simply teaching people to be kind. He was revealing what love looks like in God's kingdom. Love isn't just a feeling; it moves toward people in need.
The question Jesus leaves us with isn't, “Who deserves my love?” but “Will I become the kind of person who loves?”

It's easy to love people who are like us, agree with us, or appreciate us. Jesus calls us into a different kind of love—one that crosses barriers and moves toward people who may never repay us.
Who's God inviting you to see differently?

Look for one person today who may be overlooked.
Choose to notice them, encourage them, serve them, or meet a practical need.
Pray: God, give me eyes to see people the way you see them. Break down the barriers that keep me from loving others well. Teach me to reflect the compassion of Jesus in practical ways. Amen.
