Read:

Deborah lived in a time when everything felt unstable. Israel was oppressed and the future felt uncertain. Jabin, king of Canaan, ruled over Israel, and his military commander, Sisera, enforced that rule with fear and violence. It was a fearful time for the Israelites, and it felt like their cries to God fell on deaf ears.

Deborah was a prophet, and in the middle of this turmoil, God gave her a specific message to deliver. She was to tell Barak, an Israelite military leader, to gather ten thousand men, go to Mount Tabor, and trust that the Lord would give them victory over Sisera.

Barak hesitated. The call felt risky. He agreed to go—but only if Deborah went with him. When the battle came, God brought about victory over Sisera and his armies.

Deborah’s story reminds us that you don’t need a title or position or the perfect moment to follow God. You just need to listen to God, follow his lead, and trust in his strength. He may not call you into a war—in fact, your steps of obedience may feel incredibly ordinary in comparison—but no act of faith is too small for God to work in powerful ways.

What step of obedience might God be waiting for you to take?
