Read:

Abigail lived in a time when honor, reputation, and alliances could determine life or death. She was married to Nabal, a wealthy landowner whose arrogance and foolishness often caused tension in his community. When David—then a fugitive fleeing King Saul—sent men to request food and support, Nabal insulted them, risking violent retaliation from a man who, unbeknownst to him, would later become Israel’s king.

Abigail didn’t wait for her husband to act. She gathered provisions, mounted her donkey, and rode out to meet David. She spoke boldly yet respectfully, reminding David of God’s justice. She appealed to David’s mercy and persuaded him to hold back his anger.

Abigail’s wisdom and courage prevented bloodshed, protected her household, and earned David’s respect. Valor sometimes means stepping into tense situations and acting with wisdom and integrity when others fail to do so—and thoughtful action can make a larger difference than we realize.
